As the Managing Director of Turner, I want to acknowledge the feelings of discomfort and concern felt by myself, our team members, the people we support and our wider community following the events of recent weeks.
I, our management team and our Board of Trustees feel it's very important to address the recent public unrest and express our commitment to the safety and well-being of all those involved with Turner, many of whom are from global majority communities and play a vital role in the day to day running of our services. Social care attracts remarkable individuals from diverse communities and amongst our team, I believe we have some of the kindest, most uplifting, and committed people in the sector.
At Turners', we celebrate diversity and inclusion, and we are dedicated to supporting everyone who works and lives in our home. We pride ourselves on the representation that exists within the work we do and stand in solidarity with our employees, residents, and community members. Our zero-tolerance policy towards abuse or discrimination of any form is stronger than ever, backed up by our organisational value of 'belonging'. Within this we ask everyone involved in Turner to 'keep our eyes open and remain observant to what is happening around us'. Remaining aware and actively pushing our anti-racist position is vital in ensuring everyone involved in our work and living with us feels secure and in line with our vision - able to live their lives free from fear and isolation.
According to a report by Skills for Care (2020), around 21% of the adult social care workforce in England are from global majority communities. The role they play is vital in our sector, and we must continue to recognise the importance of their wealth of experiences and backgrounds. these not only enrich the lives of those they support but also fosters a stronger, more compassionate community for all.
I, and my wider team are committed to a future where everyone, within the Turner community and beyond feels safe, respected and valued and we continue to welcome to our home staff, residents and volunteers who stand by those principles.
